Rushton, 21, a resident of Grass Valley (Oregon) and a student resident of La Grande (Oregon) died in his dorm room at the campus of Eastern Oregon University on November 21, 2002. He was born August 5, 1981, in The Dalles, the son of Dwayne E. and Mahrea D. (Sherman) Rushton. He attended many schools in Oregon and graduated from Sherman High School in Moro (Oregon) in 1999. While in school he was active in sports, especially enjoying football and basketball. He also liked movies, reading, music, classic cars and spending time with his friends. He was a junior at Eastern Oregon and was majoring in business and accounting and had been active in the Koinonia House in La Grande. Survivors include his mother and stepfather, Mahrea and Bruce Elliott, in California; his father, Dwayne E. Rushton, Cascade Locks (Oregon); his fiancé, Kara Blagg, also a student at EO and a resident of Grass Valley; a brother, Anthony "Tony" Rushton, Wasco (Oregon); maternal grandparents, Glenn and Gwen Brehm, Mosier (Oregon); Merle and Judy Jackson, Redmond (Oregon); and Loretta Jackson, in California; and paternal grandparents, Edwin and Pat Rushton, Wasco. Memorial services will be conducted Saturday, November 30, at 2 p.m. at the South Sherman Elementary School in Grass Valley. Pastor Dan Mielke of the Koinonia House will officiate at the service. Memorials may be made to Doernbecher Children's Hospital, 3181 SE Sam Jackson Park Road, Portland, Oregon 97201; or to the Sherman High School Scholarship Fund, c/o 6591 High School Loop, Moro, Oregon 97039.
