The Dalles Chronicle, November 3, 2004
     Gilbert Fellows Ruscher, 90, a former resident of The Dalles, died on 
Nov. 1 in Ketchikan, Alaska.
     He was born Oct. 19, 1914, in The Dalles to Nora Fellows Ruscher and 
Gilbert Alonzo Ruscher.
     He attended elementary school at the little Seven Mile schoolhouse, where 
at one time he was one of only three students. In later years, he attended 
Chenowith Elementary School and graduated from The Dalles High School in 1932.
     During World War II, he was a welder at The Dalles shipyard and farmed at 
his family’s Seven Mile ranch.
     In 1955, he married wife, Irene, in Vancouver, Wash. He was a devoted 
husband and father to three stepdaughters.
     In 1959, the family moved to Ketchikan, where he remained until his death.
He loved Alaska, his family and many friends.
     He is survived by his wife of Ketchikan; two stepdaughters, Jane Clark of 
Hendersonville, Tenn., Theresa Hindman of Bethel, Alaska; one nephew, Delbert 
Lortie and his wife, Imogene, of Morton, Wash.; four nieces, Dorothy Yancy of 
Yuma, Ariz., Carol Pankonin of Summer Wash., Frances Webster and her husband, 
Larry, of Portland, and Susan Mara and her husband, Roy, near Bend.
     He will be interred in the Odd Fellows Cemetery in The Dalles on Cherry 
Heights Road following graveside services at 2 p.m. on Thursday, Nov. 4.
Spencer, Libby & Powell Funeral Home is in care of arrangements.
