Root, 56, a resident of Portland and a former resident of Mosier, died Aug. 3 of an apparent heart attack. He was born in Mosier to Clyde and Christine Root. He attended school in Mosier and remained there until 1948 when he moved to Terrebonne. He lived in many areas of Oregon, moving to Portland in 1974, where he was a representative for Oregon Realty. He worked for the Great Lakes Carbon Company and the iron workers trade. Mr. Root was instrumental in development of a clay product catbox filler and sold the company to Hart Mountain Company. His hobbies were gold mining, fishing and hunting. Survivors include his children, Alan Root, Portland; Christine Haldeman, Independence, and Karen Rudelitch, Independence; his mother, Christine Root, Mosier; a brother, Verne Root, Mosier; a sister Bernice Garner, Portland, and four grandchildren. Funeral services were Saturday at Peake Memorial Chapel in Milwaukie followed by graveside services at Mosier Cemetery. Contributions are suggested to favorite charities.
