Surnames: Rolfe, Meyer, Kennell, Faria, Klein, Sylvester, Schroder, Bidwell, Schuler/Anderson, Gatchet, Lund, Craig, Dolinsek, Klein Velma M. Rolfe, 86, a former resident of Grass Valley (Oregon), died at her home in Albany (Oregon) on April 6, 2003. She was born May 3, 1915 in Albany to Eli and Elizabeth (Meyer) Kennell. She attended Grand Prairie Grade School in Albany and was raised on the Kennell farm in Albany. She worked for a time at Children's Farm Home in Corvallis (Oregon). She later lived in California and while there, drove bus out of Mare Island during World War II, transporting service men. After marrying Raymond Faria, they lived in Santa Rosa, California and Salem (Oregon), where they owned a 23-acre dairy farm. After her husband's death in 1955 she continued to run the farm. She later married her childhood sweetheart, Robert Rolfe on July 22, 1961 in Vancouver (Washington) and they moved to his wheat ranch in Grass Valley. In 1966 the family bought the Kennell Farm in Albany and moved there, where they continued raising their family and running the dairy farm. She lived there until her death. She was a member of the Oregon Dairy Wives Association and enjoyed buying and selling cattle, growing flowers, especially dahlias and roses, and also bred and raised American Eskimo Dogs. Survivors include Robert Faria, Wasco (Oregon); stepsons Robert V. Rolfe, Twin Falls, Idaho and Roy M. Faria, Albany; daughters, Connie Klein and June Sylvester, both of Albany; step-daughters, Clara Y Schroder, Deloris Bidwell and Myrna L. Schuler/Anderson,. All of Albany, and Fern L. Gatchet, Lebanon (Oregon); a brother, Lloyd D. Kennell, Albany; a sister, Alta M. Lund, Rockland, California; 25 grandchildren and 38 great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by two husbands, Raymond Faria and Robert Rolfe; her parents, a brother, Melford Kennell; two sisters, Eileen Craig and Alma Dolinsek; and a granddaughter, Shanda Klein. Graveside services will be at 2 p.m. on Thursday, April 10, at Willamette Memorial Park with Chaplain Virginia Brown officiating. Finley Funeral Home is in care of arrangement.
