Rogers, 94, a former resident of The Dalles, died at a Portland care facility on Tuesday, Oct. 19, 2004. She was born in The Dalles on July 30, 1910, one of four children to Otto and Nellie (Gray) Greene. She grew up in The Dalles, attending and graduating from St. Mary’s Academy. She married George H. Rogers in the late 1930s in Stevenson. They lived in The Dalles for a few years until moving to Portland in 1943 while George worked as a machinist during WWII. They then moved back to The Dalles in 1945. She was a homemaker and during the Cold War was a part of The Dalles Civil Defense, where she watched for incoming air traffic from the Natatorium. She was a member of the First Christian Church and Eastern Star and a den mother for the Cub Scouts. She enjoyed going for drives, taking care of her family and going on picnics. She is survived by a son, Gerald B. Rogers and his wife Patricia of Portland; three grandchildren, Meg Rogers of Portland, Blaine Rogers of Key West, Fla., and Luke Rogers of Portland; a brother, Lynn and his wife Jean Greene of The Dalles; a niece, Marcia and her husband David Lacock and their children of The Dalles; a good friend Edna Zurflueh of The Dalles. Funeral services will be held at Spencer, Libby and Powell Funeral Home at 1 p.m. on Wednesday, Oct. 27, 2004 with Asa Jenson officiating. Interment will follow at Odd Fellows Cemetery on Cherry Heights Road. Memorials may be made to Providence Hospice of Portland, 1235 NE 47th Ave, Suite 148. Portland, OR 97213.
