Wakley iwakley@msn.com April 21, 2006, 2:24 pm The Dalles Chronicle, March 31, 2006 Claude Allen Robertson, 84, a resident of Dufur, died in The Dalles on Thursday, March 30, 2006. He was born Dec. 11, 1921, in Mitchell, Neb., the older of two children to Arthur Powell and Elsie Zoe (Shook) Robertson. He grew up in Roseburg, Marshfield and Portland. He graduated from Dufur High School in 1940. He served in the US Army Air Force as a staff sergeant and radio operator/mechanic with the 314th Bomb Wing of the 20th Air Force Division. After his discharge from the Army in March 1946, he returned to Dufur and worked as a self-employed auto mechanic. He married Jeanne Elizabeth Hammel on Oct. 3, 1948, in The Dalles. They later divorced. He was a member of the Elks Lodge and Lions Club and enjoyed amateur radio, traveling, visiting family in the Northwest, Midwest, and Europe, writing family history memoirs, making photo albums and collecting radios. Survivors include his children and their spouses: Suzy and Terry Elton, Haymarket, Va.; Eric Robertson, Portland; Madelyn and Mike Stasko, Portland; Les and Robin Robertson, Olympia, Wash.; longtime friend and companion, Marguerite Boyd, The Dalles; his grandchildren, Jeff and Jason Elton, Chad and Brooke Robertson, and Zoe Stasko; step-sisters, Roma Ann Scott and Marilyn Anderson; former wife, Jeanne Robertson, Portland; and niece, Diane Collins Vest. He was preceded in death by his parents, and sister, Sue Collins. Private family services will be held at The Dalles 18th Street IOOF Cemetery (on Cherry Heights on Saturday, April 1, with Rev. Joseph Kelbel officiating. A breakfast reception for family and friends will follow the 8:30 a.m. mass at Dufur St. Alphonsus Catholic Church on Sunday, April 2.
