Roberts, 78, a former resident of The Dalles, died at her home in McMinnville on Feb. 19, 2004. She was born in The Dalles on Aug. 17, 1925 to Eric Arthur and Mae Frances (Remington) Johnson, a Wasco County pioneer family. She graduated from The Dalles High School where she was valedictorian and then attended the University of Oregon, graduating in 1949 with a Bachelor of Science degree. She married Roscoe “Kirk” Roberts on Dec. 30, 1948 in The Dalles. They resided in Eugene from 1948 to 1953; in Vancouver, Wash., in 1953; Arcata, Calif., from 1953-54; The Dalles, 1954 to 1955; Empire (Ore.), 1955-56; Newport from 1956 to 1959; Pomeroy, Wash., 1959 to 1963; 1963 to 1984 back in Vancouver; Seal Beach, 1984-85; Huntington Beach, Calif. 1985-88; Long Beach, Calif., 1988-91; Grants Pass, 1991-98; and moved to McMinnville in 1998. She was a Lioness in Grants Pass, member of the McMinnville Lions; Sigma Kappa Sorority; Chapter House President at U of O; Rainbow Girls, Rebekah Lodge; Charter member of Women of the Moose in Grants Pass; Elks Ladies Group; Jaycettes President and member of the Kiwanis. She enjoyed gardening, playing games, Yahtzee, pinochle, card playing and fishing. She retired in 1991. Survivors include her husband, Kirk Roberts, McMinnville; a son, Dennis Roberts, Camas; daughters, Karen Krista Downs, Columbia Falls, Mont.; Sanda Sue Reeds, Deer Island, and Donita Mae Richardson, Whitefish, Mont.; a brother, William Arthur Johnson, The Dalles; 10 grandchildren and three great- grandchildren. She was preceded in death by a brother, Kenneth Eric Johnson. Funeral services will be Saturday, Feb. 21, at the Chapel of Macy and Sons Funeral Directors in McMinnville. Burial services will be private. Memorials may be made to Legacy Hospice or the Oregon Lions Sight and Hearing Foundation.
