Robbins, 74, a resident of The Dalles, died Thursday, Nov. 13, 2003 at the Portland Veterans Administration Medical Center. Born in Kelso, Wash., he was a World War II veteran and served as a mess sergeant in the U.S. Army during the Korean War. He is remembered locally for his resemblance to a certain “Colonel” and was known by the name “The Colonel” when he would call in to the radio program “The Trading Post.” He was an accomplished story teller, and his war stories and family anecdotes will be missed. He is survived by his wife Jeannette (Jenny) Robbins and daughter Pam Robbins of The Dalles, sons Rodney Robbins of Denver, Colo., Jeffery and his wife Jennifer and their children Brandon and Kyle of Portland, and Matthew Robbins of Portland. Private services for the family will be held at Willamette National Cemetery in Portland, and a public memorial service will be on Thursday, Nov. 20 at 1 p.m. at the Evangelical Church in Oregon City.
