The Dalles Chronicle, February 3, 2004
     Vera Lou Rietmann, 60, a resident of Ione, died Monday, Jan. 26, 2004, at 
Good Shepherd Medical Center in Hermiston.
     She was born March 8, 1943, at Twin Bridges, Mont., to Howard G. and 
Carrie M. Tayer Smith. The family moved to Oregon when she was a year old. 
     She grew up and attended school at The Dalles. After graduating from The 
Dalles High School, she attended The Dalles Beauty College, then worked as a 
beautician here for a number of years.
     On Oct. 28, 1972, she married Wayne E. Rietmann at The Dalles. The couple 
lived on the Rietmann family ranch near Ione.
     She was a lifetime member of the Ione American Legion Auxiliary. 
     Survivors include her husband; sons Ed Rietmann and Len Rietmann, both of 
Ione; and a brother, Art Smith, of The Dalles. 
     She was preceded in death by her parents, three sisters and two brothers.
A memorial service was held Jan. 31 in Ione.
     Memorial contributions may be made to a charity of choice.
     Sweeny Mortuary of Heppner is in charge of arrangements.
