Wakley iwakley@msn.com April 17, 2006, 10:28 pm The Dalles Chronicle, January 12, 2006 Renata Marie Riess, 89, a resident of The Dalles, died at her home on Monday, Jan. 9, 2006. She was born on June 24, 1916 in Corvallis, the second of six to Frank August Walter and Maria Marguerite (Heeszel) Schmidt. She grew up in Corvallis, where she graduated from Corvallis High School. She married Anton “Tony” Henry Riess in Corvallis, on Sept. 2, 1950. She was an accomplished and prolific painter and artist. Her art can be found in many homes. She was the organist for Grace Lutheran Church in Klickitat for 50 years, a passionate gardener and for years she provided flowers for the church. Over the years she was a member of the Walther League, Lutheran Ladies Aid, Homemakers Club, and Lutheran Women’s Missionary League, leader of several 4-H Clubs and organizer of Klickitat Canyon Days art show. She is survived by her daughter, Pamela Sue Riess and Lee Loyd, Tukwila, Wash.; her son Milton Charles Riess, Los Angeles, Calif.; one brother, Walter Schmidt, Corvallis; two sisters, Esther Warneke, Scappoose; Marie Grossnicklaus, Corvallis; and many loving extended family members and friends. She was preceded in death by her husband Anton “Tony” Riess; two sisters, Gertrude Riess and Ruth Wulfers and her parents. Viewing visitation will be held on Thursday, Jan. 12, from 2 p.m. to 7 p.m. and on Friday, Jan. 13, from 8:30 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. at Spencer, Libby and Powell Funeral Home and at 11 a.m. until the time of service at 12 p.m. at Faith Lutheran Church with Pastor John Westhafer and Rev. Paul Bundschuh officiating. Organist will be Shirley Bundschuh. Graveside service to follow at IOOF Cemetery in Goldendale. Memorials may be made to Grace Lutheran Church, PO Box 66, Klickitat, WA 98628 and Faith Lutheran Church, 2810 W. 10th St., The Dalles, OR 97058.
