Surnames: Renken, Kramer, Dexter, Johnson, Case, Dennis, Benshoof, Way, DeBois Mabel Jane Renken, 90, a resident of The Dalles, died at the local hospital on Tuesday, April 8, 2003. She was born January 15, 1913, in Parma, Idaho, the sixth of ten children to Chancey Mordello and Laura (Kramer) Dexter. At age 10, Mabel moved to The Dalles from Goldendale (Washington) after the death of her mother and graduated from The Dalles High School, class of 1930. She married Richard "Dick" L. Renken on October 26, 1931, in The Dalles, and they lived and farmed on Threemile Road. She also worked at The Dalles Cherry Co-op and later for Ben Musa, certified public accountant. She was a member of the Zion Lutheran Church, Rebekah Lodge, Wasco County Pioneers Association and was named Pioneer Woman of the Year in 1992; Wasco County Historical Society, Columbia Gorge Discovery Center and had been active with Wasco County Fair. She enjoyed traveling the world, the outdoors, the family cabin at Ketchum Lake and dancing. She is survived by her daughters and their husbands, Sandra and Lyn Johnson, Redmond, Washington and Joanna and Stan Case, Burbank, Washington; her grandchildren and their spouses, Kathy and Scott Dennis, Redmond, Washington; Greg and Kim Johnson, The Dalles; David Johnson, Los Angeles (California) Kristi and Mike Benshoof, Duvall, Washington; Tod and Lorie Case, Pendleton (Oregon); Terry and Patty Case, Helix (Oregon); Karla and Colby Way, Buena, Washington; 14 great-grandchildren and her sister, Tootie DeBois, Portland. She was preceded in death by her husband, Dick, in 1990, four sisters, four brothers and great-granddaughter, Leslie. Viewing visitation will be held at Spencer, Libby & Powell Funeral Home from 2 to 7 p.m. on Friday, April 11 and 9 a.m. to noon on Saturday. Memorial services will be held at 2 p.m. on Saturday, April 12, at Zion Lutheran Church with Pastor Dorthy Nielsen officiating. Family graveside services will precede at 1 p.m. on Saturday at The Dalles IOOF Memorial Mausoleum.
