He was born Nov. 3, 1944, in The Dalles, the second of seven children to Lynwood R. and Margaret A. (Crichton) Reed. He was raised in The Dalles and graduated from high school in Pasco, Wash. He attended one year of college at Eastern Oregon University before being drafted into the U.S. Army. He married Janiece A. Henkle on Aug. 16, 1969, in The Dalles. He worked as a truck driver and a heavy equipment operator for the Teamster’s Union. He was a member of the Eagles Lodge and American Legion, and enjoyed his family, friends, shuffleboard, Toronado cars and tinkering around. He is survived by his wife, Janiece A. Reed, The Dalles; three daughters, Loree Reed Smith, The Dalles; Cary L. and her husband Steve Smith, Tigard; Tara D. Reed and her husband, Dallas Doudna, Drain; his mother, Margaret Reed, Mosier; six sisters, Linda Ann Owens, Enterprise; Susan Kay Hepner, White Salmon; Nancy Lynn Spencer, Oregon City; Sally Elizabeth Wood, Cottonwood, Calif.; Wendy Louise Huskey, Mosier; Melanie Lee Biechler, The Dalles; grandchildren, Brandon Trevino; Brittani Thomas; Kalina and Keegan Smith; Allyse, Tracey, Zachary and Bradley Doudna; Stephanie and Krista Smith; great- grandchildren, Vanessa R and Aletha Smith. He was preceded in death by his father in 1962, and his son, Tracey Reed Smith, in 1995. Memorial services will be held at Willamette National Cemetery in Portland on Thursday, June 17, at 3 p.m. and a celebration of life service will be held at The Dalles Eagles Lodge on Saturday, June 19, at 2 p.m. Memorial donations may be made to Vancouver VA Medical Center Hospice Unit, c/o Spencer, Libby and Powell Funeral Home, 1100 Kelly Avenue, The Dalles, OR 97058.
