He was born July 24 at his family home near Grass Valley on July 24, 1919 to Diedrich and Dora Reckman. He was the eighth of nine children. He was a graduate of Sandy High School in 1940. He married Pasty Keenan in August of 1941 and their daughter Kelly was born in October of 1942. During World War II he worked for the State Highway Department. Over the years he farmed in Sherman and Clackamas counties. He was a journeyman carpenter and later in his retirement years he was active on the Clackamas County Soil and Water Conservation Board. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, gardening and woodworking and made furniture and shared the bountiful harvest of his garden with family, friends and neighbors. He and his wife liked square dancing and clam digging on the Washington coast with friends. He was supportive of youth organizations, 4-H, FFA and was a buyer of the market programs at Clackamas County Fair and the Tygh Valley Wheat League show. Survivors include his wife, Patsy; daughter, Kelly Petty and her husband, Bill; two grandchildren, Will Petty, Estacada and Marcia Petty, Albany; sister, Katherine Eakin, Goldendale; and brother, Henry Reckman, Boring. He was preceded in death by his parents; three brothers, Herman, Dick and John; and three sisters, including a baby sister, Maria; and Elizabeth (Hartley) and Marie (Eakin).
