She was born August 14, 1935 in Butterfield, Missouri, the youngest of three children born to Preston Eugene Gaige and Julia Ann Sherman Gaige. She came to Oregon in June of 1944 with her family, and has lived in The Dalles most of the time since. In 1956 she married Leslie Childress; they were later divorced, and a few years later preceded her in death in 1997. In her younger years she worked at the Granada Theatre and Civic Theatre, and for a few years at the Model Laundry, and later worked as a motel maid in The Dalles and Bend. She enjoyed going to yard sales, visiting with relatives and trips to Portland. She is survived by her daughter Julia Childress Wyler and grandson Adam Victoria, her brothers Bill and Curtis Gaige of The Dalles, and several cousins. Graveside funeral services will be held at 3 p.m. on Friday, May 16, 2003 at Park Lawn Cemetery, the Reverend David Clear presiding. Memorial contributions may be made to the Mid-Columbia Senior Center Meals Program, 1112 West 9th Street, The Dalles, Oregon 97058. Arrangements were by Columbia Cremation & Burial.
