Probstfield, 97, an architect and draftsman at Kaiser Shipyards during the 1940s, died of cancer Jan. 6 in a Beaverton care center. She was born March 27, 1886 in Helena, Mont. Mrs. Probstfield moved to the Portland area in 1941, and after working for Kaiser, was employed by the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, and later worked in City of Portland's building permit division. After retirement, she worked until the age of 75 as a house planner and designer. She resided with her son in The Dalles from 1973 until her illness. She was a member of Piedmont United Presbyterian Church, and Mt. Hood Chapter 144, Order of Eastern Star. Survivors include one son, Merritt Probstfield, The Dalles; one daughter, Catherine Probstfield, Beaverton; four grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren and six great-great-grandchildren. Private funeral services were Jan 8 at Skyline Memorial Funeral Home, followed by private interment at Skyline Memorial Gardens.
