Betty Jane Preston, 74, a resident of The Dalles, died at the local hospital 
on Aug. 27, 1995

She was born June 27, 1921 in Sheridan, Wyo, the only child of William and 
Helen (Barnes) Kline.  She grew up and graduated from high school in Sheridan.

She married Clifford Eugene Preston in Hardin, Mont. in 1945.

She worked for Pacific Northwest Bell Telephone in Sheridan, then was 
transferred to The Dalles in 1952.  She worked here until the late 1970s when 
she was transferred to Bend, where she worked until her retirement several 
years ago.

Survivors include her cousins, T. E. Buchanan, Earnest Barnes and F. T. 
Barnes, all of Sheridan; Dorothy Mortenson, Ranchester, Wyo.; Catherine Hagel, 
Salmon, Idaho; Ralph and Dean Barnes, Lincoln, Neb.; and Dale Barnes, The 
Dalles.  Her husband, Clifford, died in 1988.

Viewing visitation will be at Spencer, Libby & Powell Funeral Home from 2 to 7 
p.m. on Wednesday, Aug. 30.  Graveside funeral services will be at The Dalles 
IOOF Cemetery at 10 a.m. on Thursday, Aug. 31. 

Memorials may be made to the Oregon Heart Association, sent in care of 
Spencer, Libby & Powell Funeral Home, 1100 Kelly Ave., The Dalles, OR, 97058.
