Wakley iwakley@msn.com December 28, 2006, 5:11 pm The Dalles Chronicle, June 20, 2006 Raymond August Popps, 83, died Sunday, June 18, 2006 at the Oregon Veteran’s Home in The Dalles. He was born Aug. 11, 1922 in Pittsburg, Pa. to Elmer and Dorothy (Pleskina) Popps. He grew up and was educated in Pennsylvania attending grade school and high school in Aliquippa. He attended the University of Portland for four years. During World War II, he served in the Army Air Corps, as an airplane engine mechanic. Following the war, he moved to Portland where he worked as foreman and CPA for Oregon Transfer Warehouse. He served as president of the Sellwood/Moreland Little League, and president of the PTA and basketball coach at St. Agatha’s grade school in Portland. Survivors include his son, Michael Hunter, Idaho; daughter Delphine Anne Popps, Lincoln City; sisters Irene Painter, Aliquippa; and Anna Marie Berardi, Coraopolis, Pa.; brother Leonard Popps, Aliquippa; granddaughter Tabitha Marie Helms, Portland; and grandsons Theodore Raymond Helms and Christian M. Hunter, both of Portland. He was preceded in death by his wife Katherine Popps in 2004. A memorial Mass will be held at St. Mary’s Catholic Church on Friday, June 23, at 9 a.m. followed by interment at Mt. View Cemetery. Arrangements by Anderson’s Tribute Center.
