The Dalles Weekly Reminder, May 3, 1984
     Virgil D. Pogue, 68, died at Mid-Columbia Medical Center Thursday, April 
26.  He was a resident of Rufus.

     Pogue was an avid outdoorsman, enjoying hunting and fishing.  He was a 
member of Local Union 320 in Portland and was a service veteran.

     He was preceded in death by his wife, Clara, in 1982.

     Survivors include sons:  Chuck Pogue of Rainier; Virgil D. Pogue, Jr. of 
Castle Rock, Wash., Daniel Pogue of Rufus and Robert Pogue of California; 
daughters:  Phyllis Holt of Baker, Calif., Pat Christiansen of Eugene and 
Cheryl VonEschen of Camarillo, Calif.; sisters:  Hazel Pritchett of 
Canyonville, Vivene Shamblin of Redding, Calif., Margaret Williams of Oklahoma 
and Juanita Wade of El Paso, Texas; 10 grandchildren, three great-
grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.

     A graveside service was held at Springfield Memorial Gardens in 
Springfield Monday, April 30, with Rev. Johnny Johnson officiating.

     Smith Callaway was in charge of arrangements.
