He was born May 9, 1924 in Big Fork, Mont. He served stateside in the U.S. Navy as a pharmacist’s mate third class in the U.S. Navy during WWII from 1942 to 1945. He married Beverly Hopey in 1950 and was employed by Pacific Power and Light Company in various management positions in Washington and Oregon until retiring in 1982. He and his family moved to The Dalles in 1967 and he and his wife lived here until the late 1970s. During that time he was manager of the local PP&L office. While living in The Dalles he was actively involved in the Windbaggers and was instrumental in helping to start it. He belonged to the Elks, The Dalles Country Club and Fowl Fellows. He served on the planning commission and worked on The Dalles Rodeo and parade. He is survived by his wife, Beverly; sons, Thomas, Troutdale; and Gary, Vancouver, Wash.; daughter, Linda Richardson, Poulsbo, Wash.; and Darla McConnell, Madras; a brother, Dale Pierce, Klamath Falls; a sister, Lois Covington, Kennewick, Wash.; 10 grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren. Memorials may be made to the American Diabetes Association.
