The Dalles Weekly Reminder, January 5, 1984
     Versel Lee Phelps, 70, a resident of Dufur since 1978 and a former 
resident of Bend, died Dec. 28 at his home in Dufur following a long illnes.
     He was born Aug. 24, 1913 in Arkansas.
     Mr. Phelps worked as a flagman for moving heavy equipment until 
retirement.
     Survivors include his wife, Eva, whom he married in Bend June 6, 1937; a 
son, Frank, in Oregon, and one granddaughter.
     No public funeral services were conducted.  Spencer, Libby & Powell 
Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
     Memorials may be made to charity.
