She was born July 3, 1925, in The Dalles, the second of four children to Alvin Christian and Velma Jean (Smith) Nielsen. She was raised in The Dalles and graduated from The Dalles High School in the Class of 1944. She then attended the Cadet Nurse Corp. in Portland and trained at Emanuel Hospital. She married Willis Earl Robertson in the Summer of 1947. They lived in Vancouver, Wash., and later moved to Jennings Lodge near Portland. She moved to The Dalles in 1958 and worked at The Dalles General Hospital as a registered nurse retiring as the director of nurses in 1981. She was an avid gardener, loved to sew, knit and hobbies of all sorts. Her latest love was growing and creatively decorating gourds. She married Eskil “Harry” Peterson on Oct. 30, 1969, in Goldendale. In the early 1970’s, they purchased the Treaty Oak Orchards on Mill Creek from her father making her a third-generation owner. She is survived by her two daughters, Peggy Jean Miller and her husband, Jim, Memphis, Tenn., and children, Jeff, Trever and Amy Mees and Ryan Miller; Nancy Jo Maynard-Taylor and her husband, Alan, Hood River and children, Megan and Alex Maynard; one stepdaughter, Jeanne Glenn; sister, Patricia Lee Newland, Eugene; nephew, Tim Johnson and niece, Kathy Onsurez. She was preceded in death by her husband Eskil “Harry” Peterson in November 2001. Viewing visitation will be held at Spencer, Libby and Powell Funeral Home on Tuesday, April 13 from 2 to 7 p.m. and on Wednesday, from 9 a.m. through the services. Funeral services will be held at Spencer, Libby and Powell Funeral Home on Wednesday, April 14, at 1 p.m. with Rev. Tim Saur officiating. Entombment will follow at The Dalles Odd Fellows Memorial Mausoleum. Spencer, Libby and Powell Funeral Home are in care of arrangements. Memorials may be made to Columbia Gorge Community College, c/o Nursing Program, 400 East Scenic Drive, The Dalles, OR 97058.
