Surnames: Peterson, Johnson, Brown, Bradford, Kreck Lois Virginia Peterson, 83, a resident of The Dalles, died at her home on Friday, May 2, 2003. She was born April 30, 1920, in Jackson, Minnesota, the oldest of five children to Howard S. and Cora (Johnson) Brown. She attended school in Jackson and worked there until moving to Oakland, California to help in the war effort, working in the shipyards during World War II. She married Donald D. Peterson in San Francisco, California, on January 18, 1944. They returned to Minnesota in 1944 and moved to The Dalles in November 1953. She was the school lunch cook at Joseph G. Wilson School from 1954 until her retirement in 1982 with 28 years of service. She knew all the school children and liked to work with the student helpers, faculty and staff. She was a homemaker, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. She was a member of the Zion Lutheran Church and American Red Cross. Her interests were traveling, walking, gardening, and most of all, her family. She is survived by her two children and their families; son, Garry W. Peterson and his wife, Margaret and her daughter, Renea A. Bradford and her husband, Gary, all of The Dalles; grandchildren Amy Peterson, Ryan Peterson, Todd Bradford and Scott Bradford, great-grandchildren, Madelia Bradford, Kathryn Bradford and Gavin Bradford; a brother, Robert Brown and his wife, Jan; and sister Bonnie Kreck and her husband, Emmery. She was preceded in death by her husband, Donald, in 1979 and two siblings. Viewing visitation will be at Spencer, Libby & Powell Funeral Home on Monday, May 5, from 2 to 7 p.m. and 8:30 to 10 a.m. on Tuesday. Services will be held at The Dalles Zion Lutheran Church at 11 a.m. on Tuesday, May t, with the Reverend Dorthy Nielsen officiating. Entombment will follow at The Dalles IOOF Memorial Mausoleum.
