The Dalles Weekly Reminder, January 29, 1988
     John Robert Penington, 79, died in The Dalles Jan. 20.  He lived in 
Condon since 1973.
     Mr. Penington was born in Vinita, Okla., on Nov. 16, 1908.  He was an 
Army veteran of World War II and a member of the Condon Elks Lodge.
     He is survived by his wife, Vera Penington of Condon, to whom he married 
in 1941; a son, Andrew Penington of The Colony, Texas; five grandchildren; a 
brother; a sister; two nephews and a niece.
     He was buried in Parklawn Cemetery after a service at the LDS Church in 
The Dalles officiated by Bishop Steve Thompson.  Spencer, Libby and Powell 
Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.  Memorials are suggested to the 
American Cancer Society.
