She was born July 2, 1928 in Pinewood, Minn. She married Arthur M. Parrow on Dec. 27, 1946 in Cayuga, N.D. They lived for a time in North Dakota and in Dubois, Idaho, before moving to Dufur in 1951. They lived in Dufur for 17 years. In 1968, they moved to Vernonia. She was active in civic organizations throughout her life. Most recently, she was the president of the Vernonia Pioneer Museum and was instrumental in the designation of the museum as a national historic landmark. She also played a major role in the publishing of “Vernonia: A Pocket in the Woods,” a history of that community. As a member of Vernonia Pride, she was a leader in the organization of the Fourth of July parade and fireworks as well as several beautification projects around the town. She also played a key role in the development of the Vernonia Walking Tour and accompanying guide booklet. She is survived by siblings Ferne Anderson, Shirley Lee, and David Staehnke; her sons Douglas M. and Randall J. Parrow, and daughters Darlene M. Parrow, Karen D. Parrow, and Melodie A. Eckland; seven grandchildren, and ten great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, Arthur M., and son David M. Parrow. A celebration of her life will be held at 2 p.m., Friday, Nov. 12, at the Vernonia Community Church. All are invited to stay for a potluck after the service. Remembrances are suggested to: the Vernonia Pioneer Museum, Vernonia Pride, or the Dufur Alumni Association. Finley-Sunset Hills Mortuary is in care of arrangements.
