The Dalles Weekly Reminder, January 17, 1985
Josephine L. Parkhurst, 82, died in Roseburg, Jan. 12.  She was a former 
resident of Grass Valley area and a resident of Roseburg since 1924.

She was born Aug. 11, 1902 in Pleasant View, Mo.  She grew up in Grass Valley 
and lived there until her late teens.

Survivors include two daughters, Violet Wagers, Roseburg, and Rachael Engman, 
in California; two sons, Irvin Parkhurst, Glide, and David Parkhurst, Canby; 
four brothers, Hadley Stark, in Arizona; Wallace Stark, in California; Harry 
Stark, in Grass Valley, and Olan Stark, in Kent; nine grandchildren; five 
great-grandchildren; and two brothers-in-law, Willis Brittain, Bend, and Frank 
Bayer, Goldendale, Wash.  Two brothers, Curtis and Fred Stark, and two sisters 
Eula Brittain and Ellen Bayer, died earlier.

Funeral services were Wednesday at Wilson's Chapel of the Roses Funeral Home 
in Roseburg.  Concluding services followed at the First Baptist church in 
Grass Valley with burial at the IOOF Cemetery in Grass Valley.

Memorials may be made to the Mercy Hospice Program or the Community Cancer 
Center in Roseburg, or to other charities.
