John Edward Otey, a resident of The Dalles since 1989, died at a local care facility on Thursday, Aug. 17, 1995. He was 73. John was born April 17, 1922 at Anniston, Ala., the son of John William and Della Otey. He grew up in Anniston before the family moved to Seattle in 1946. He worked at the National Steel Co. and was a member of Local 383. He was also an ordained minister and for many years was an evangelist and did mission work in the Seattle area. He married his wife, Maxine, in 1989 and she preceded him in death in 1991. Survivors include two brothers: Wallace F. Otey of Seattle and William Early Otey of Kingman, AZ., several nieces and nephews and a cousin. Graveside services will be held Tuesday, Aug. 22 at the Odd Fellows Parklawn Cemetery with Lt. Joe Thompson of the Salvation Army officiating. Memorials have been suggested to the Salvation Army. Smith Callaway Chapel is in charge of arrangements.
