Surnames: Omeg, Covert, Vader, Roberts, Hawkins, Knowland, Filbin, Wolf, DePriest, Winkle, Lantis, Smith, Kent Ronald Covert Omeg, 88, a lifelong resident of The Dalles, died at a local care facility on Sunday, March 2, 2003. He was born September 14, 1914 near The Dalles on Pleasant Ridge, the fourth of six children to Louis Eugene and Ruby Cora (Covert) Omeg. He grew up and attended school on Pleasant Ridge. He farmed on Eightmile until World War II when he moved to Tacoma (Washington), and worked in the ship yards. He then returned to The Dalles and farmed, later working for The Dalles Farm Equipment as a mechanic. He started with Harvey Aluminum in 1957, retiring from Martin Marietta in 1976. He enjoyed fishing, hunting, camping and going for long drives. He is survived by his wife, Geraldine C. (Vader) Omeg, whom he married on February 7, 1937 in Goldendale (Washington) The Dalles; his son, Gerald and his wife, Diane Omeg, Dufur (Oregon); two grandchildren, Kimberlee Omeg, Dufur, and William Roberts, Gresham (Oregon); three step-grandchildren, Christopher Omeg Hawkins, Dufur; Sydney and Jacob Roberts, Troutdale (Oregon); six step-great-grandchildren, Jared, Ian and Brendan Knowland, Salem (Oregon); Seth and Caleb Filbin, Dufur; Haili Wolf-DePriest, Friend (Oregon); two step-great-great-grandchildren, Gavin and Rebecca Knowland, Salem; his brother, Kenneth Omeg, The Dalles; two nephews, Mel Omeg and family, The Dalles; Louis Winkle, California; nieces, Ruth Lantis and family, Maryville; Leona Smith and family, Portland; Phyllis Kent and family, The Dalles; and Pam and Susan. Viewing and visitation will be from 2 to 7 p.m. on Thursday, March 6, and from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Friday. Graveside services will be held at Parklawn Cemetery at 2 p.m. on Friday, March 7, with Asa Jenson officiating. Spencer, Libby & Powell Funeral Home is in care of arrangements.
