The Dalles Chronicle, September 8, 2004
     Philip Gregory O’Meara Sr., 84, a resident of Wasco, died at the local 
hospital on Monday, Sept. 6, 2004.
     He was born Oct. 22, 1919 in Wasco, the second of five children to 
Patrick Gregory and Ruby Mae (Yates) O’Meara. He graduated from Wasco High 
School in 1938 and then attended Linfield College graduating in 1941 with a 
bachelor of arts. At Linfield he played and lettered in football all four 
years and in 1941 he was the recipient of the First All American award. In 
2001 he was inducted into the Linfield College Athletic Hall of Fame.
     During World War II he served in the US Army as an artillery survey 
sergeant in the Third Infantry Division, receiving a purple heart and bronze 
star.
     After the service he returned to Wasco and married Lucille Effie Booth on 
Oct. 12, 1946 in Goldendale. They lived in Wasco where he ranched and was a 
brand inspector for the State of Oregon.
     He was a 50-year member of The Dalles Elks Lodge and the Masonic Lodge. 
He was involved in Wasco City Council, American Legion and enjoyed the 
outdoors, hunting and fishing.
     He is survived by one daughter and her husband, Margaret and Rick 
Stoltenberg, Redmond; three sons, Philip G. Jr. and La-Lonnie O’Meara, Sandy; 
William P. and Kathy O’Meara, Hood River; and Robert M. and Jan O’Meara, 
Canby; grandchildren Aaron, Nolan, Meagan and Derrek O’Meara; great 
granddaughter Amanda Ellett; step grandchildren and step great grandchildren. 
He was preceded in death by his wife Lucille on May 8, 1993 and his brothers 
James, Steve, Richard and Patrick.
     Viewing visitation will be at Spencer, Libby & Powell Funeral Home on 
Friday, Sept. 10 from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. and Saturday from 8 a.m. to 9:30 a.m. 
Graveside services with military rights will be held at Wasco Sun Rise 
Cemetery on Saturday, Sept. 11, 2004 with Rev. Robert R. Reasoner officiating. 
     Memorials may be made to Sherman County Museum, PO Box 173, Moro OR 97039 
or American Heart Association, or American Cancer Association, 2120 First Ave.
