He was born in Oklahoma City on July 13, 1946, the son of William and Rossia (Watts) Oden. When he was 5 or 6, he moved with his family to Hood River. He attended school in Hood River and at the age of 17 entered the U.S. Navy serving in the Vietnam War. He was honorably discharged in 1966 and then served three years in the Naval Reserves. After an honorable discharge, he returned to Hood River and for a short time was employed by Diamond Fruit Co. He became a trucker and worked for commercial carriers for the next 28 years. He enjoyed fishing, the ocean and old movies. Survivors include his daughter, Michelle Norvald, Portland; a son, Matthew Oden, Middletown, N.J.; a sister, Betty Rene, The Dalles; one grandchild, one niece and a nephew. A public service is scheduled. Cremation arrangements are by Pentilla’s Chapel by the Sea in Long Beach.
