She was born on Nov. 30, 1935, in Mesilla Park, NM the oldest daughter born to Leonard and Elden (Whitehurst) Freeman. She was raised in Torrance, Calif., and the family moved to central Oregon in 1950. She attended school in Prineville. Yvonne married Cecil Stafford in 1952 in Prineville, and they later moved to Powell Butte and started cattle ranching. She was very active with the community, her children’s school events and worked in a dress shop in Prineville. She and Cecil later divorced in 1968. Yvonne married Fred Nystrom in 1969 and moved to Stevenson.
