He was born Oct. 4, 1943 in Salem, the older of two children to Golden Allen and Hildred Louise (Reger) Nowling. He was raised in The Dalles, graduating from The Dalles High School. After high school, he worked for Pacific Power & Lighting in The Dalles and then enlisted in the U.S. Navy serving for four years during the Vietnam War. After his discharge, he returned to work for PP&L reading meters, working as a lineman and in his later years, in the purchasing department. He was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints in The Dalles and enjoyed the outdoors including hunting. He is survived by his mother, Hildred L. Nowling, The Dalles; his son, Randall Kaiel, Portland, and granddaughter, Allysa Kaiel, Gresham. He was preceded in death by his father, Goldie Nowling and his sister, Carol Peat. Memorial services will be held at a later date. Private cremation was held at The Dalles Win-quatt Crematory with Spencer, Libby and Powell Funeral Home in care of arrangements.
