He was born Nov. 4, 1926 in Wasco to William A. and Gladys B. (Royse) Nisbet. His mother died when he was one year old, and he was raised by his father’s second wife, Louise Anna Nisbet. Following his graduation from Wasco High School in 1944 he served in the U.S. Army from 1945-46. He married Aileen Scott on Oct. 4, 1947 in Wasco and they have made their home there for 57 years. He owned and operated the Wasco Cafe and Lounge for ten years and, together with his brother Bob and son Bobby, co-owned and operated the Wasco Lumber Company for many years, retiring in 1988. He enjoyed spending time at his cabin in Eastern Oregon, as well as hunting and fishing, playing pool and spending time with his many friends and family. He was a member of the Wasco United Methodist Church, the American Legion, the Loyal Order of Moose and the Fraternal Order of Eagles. Survivors include his wife Aileen of the family home; his children and their families, daughters Shari and her husband George Gritz, Hermiston; Ellen and her husband Gary Fisher, Aloha; sons Bill and his wife Joanne Nisbet, and Bob Nisbet, all of Bend; brothers Larry Nisbet, Brookings; Bob Nisbet, Wasco; and Bud Nisbet, Quartzsite, Ariz. Also surviving are one granddaughter, seven grandsons, three great-granddaughters and five great-grandsons. He was preceded in death by his father and mothers, and by one sister, Gwen Gosson. Funeral services will be held at the Wasco United Methodist Church at 1 p.m. on Saturday, Dec. 11, with Pastor Bob Reasoner presiding. Interment with military honors will follow at Sunrise Cemetery in Wasco. Memorial contributions may be made to Hospice of the Gorge, 719 Myrtle Street, The Dalles, OR 97058.
