The Dalles Chronicle, February 16, 2005
     Violet Genevieve Newell, 94, a former resident of The Dalles, died in 
Eugene on Feb. 13, 2005.
     She was born April 18, 1910, in Walla Walla to Vern and Zona (Mock) Wells.
     She married Nathan John Newell in Kennewick, Wash. on April 7, 1931. He 
died on Dec. 20, 1999.
     She worked as a waitress and enjoyed crocheting, reading and dancing. 
     Survivors include a daughter, Berna Johnston, Eugene; and a son, John 
Newell, Bend; a brother, Amos Wells, Rufus; a sister, Erma Gonzalez, 
Anchorage; four grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
     Graveside services will be at the IOOF Cemetery in The Dalles at 11 a.m. 
on Friday, Feb. 18, followed by burial.
     Poole-Larsen Funeral Home of Eugene is in care of arrangements.
     Memorials may be made to the Mid-Columbia Senior Center in The Dalles or 
Westside Baptist Church in Eugene.
