The Dalles Weekly Reminder, September 29, 1983
     Howard John Nelson, 62, a resident of The Dalles since 1958, died Friday 
in Lincoln City.
     He was born Feb. 11, 1921 in Fargo, N.D.
     Mr. Nelson worked as a chemist for Martin Marietta and was a member of 
the United Methodist Church, The Dalles Elks Lodge and the American Chemists 
Society.
     Survivors include his wife, Lila, The Dalles, whom he married in Portland 
in 1948; three sons, Bryan, Beaverton; Frent, San Francisco; and Barry, The 
Dalles; and a brother, William B., San Jose, Calif.
     Private graveside services were Tuesday at The Dalles IOOF Mausoleum and 
public memorial services were at the Methodist Church with the Rev. Jerry 
Tanquist and Dr. Myron Hall officiating.
     Memorials are suggetsed to the United Methodist Church Memorial Fund.
     Spencer, Libby & Powell Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
