Wakley iwakley@msn.com April 16, 2006, 10:28 pm The Dalles Chronicle, November 9, 2005 Harold Charles Nelson, 94, a resident of The Dalles, died Saturday, Nov. 5, 2005, at his daughter’s home which they shared since 2002. He was born near Stratford, Iowa, on Jan. 10, 1911, the youngest of six children to Charles William and Anna Catharine (Lingvall) Nelson, where he grew up and went to school. He married Frances Leona Gibbons in November 1931. He farmed for many years in the Dayton and Boone area of Iowa. Later he was a partner in the Kueens Trailer Ranch in Webster City, Iowa, with his son, Gaylord Nelson. He enjoyed camping, hunting, fishing, and playing cards with family and friends. He was a member of the Methodist Church. He is survived by his son, Gaylord Nelson of Webster City; his daughter, Annabelle Brown, The Dalles; his half-sister, Olive Nelson McVicker, Florence, Ariz.; eight grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; three great-great- grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his wives, Frances Nelson and Vernice Nelson; his siblings and a grandson Michael Nelson. Private cremation was held at Win-Quatt Crematory in The Dalles with Spencer, Libby & Powell Funeral Home in care of arrangement. Inurnment of cremains will be held at a later date at Bass Point Cemetery north of Boone, Iowa.
