Wakley iwakley@msn.com December 28, 2006, 7:59 pm The Dalles Chronicle, July 27, 2006 Lyda “Jean” Namie, 77, a resident of The Dalles, died Tuesday, July 25, 2006. She was born in Libby, Mont., on July 17, 1929, the second of three children, to Leland Amos and Lucy Ellen (Buchanan) Sturm. She was raised and attended school in Napa, Calif. She married Calbert Fay Glaspy on October 24, 1944 in Reno, Nev. In 1969, she moved to The Dalles and worked for Payless Drug Store as a cosmetologist. On May 23, 1970, she married George Namie at the First Methodist Church in The Dalles. She worked at the Elks Lodge for many years alongside her husband, George Namie, and volunteered at the Veterans Hospital Gift Shop in The Dalles, as well as volunteering at Mid-Columbia Medical Center. She enjoyed ceramics, arts and crafts, reading, her yard, and loved to go clothes shopping with her friend, Helen MacNab Medler. She is survived by her two children, Carolyn J. Lansdon, Washougal, Wash.; and Leland C. Glaspy, Toutle, Wash.; one step-daughter, Katherine Namie, San Francisco; five grandchildren, Troy D. Lansdon, Matthew W. Lansdon, both of Vancouver, Wash.; Angela R. Glaspy, The Dalles; Jeannie L. Glaspy, Beaverton; and David L. Brazington, Prosser, Wash.; three step-grandchildren; six great-grandchildren, Austin J. Lansdon, Levi T. Lansdon, Katelyn D. Kayfish, Jackson L. Britton, Shayla A. Kurle, and Matthew B. Lansdon; her brother, Robert L. Sturm, Vallejo, Calif.; her brother-in-law and sister-in- law, Jim and Kate (Namie) Potter, Manteca, Calif.; nine nieces, eight nephews, and her many friends in The Dalles. She is preceded in death by her parents; one half-brother, Walter Amos Sturm; two half-sisters, Leanora May Sturm and Elizabeth “Betty” Sturm Allison; her husband, George Namie; step-son, David Namie and her sister, Verna Lee Sturm Brewer. There will be a Celebration of Life at the First Christian Church here in The Dalles on Sunday, July 30, at 2 p.m. Spencer, Libby & Powell Funeral Home is in care of arrangements. Private cremation was held at Win-Quatt Crematory in The Dalles with burial to be at Willamette National Cemetery at a later date.
