He was born October 30, 1949, in Glendale, California, the oldest of two children to Frank Burdette and Marjorie Catherine (Hickman) Mountain. He was raised and graduated from high school in Alhambra, California, then attended East Los Angeles Junior College. He moved to Concord, California and worked for Standard Oil Company, then worked with Farmer's Insurance Company in the late 1970's and continued in the insurance business until 1999 when he retired for health reasons. He lived in the San Francisco Bay Area until moving to Las Vegas (Nevada) in 1989 then to Arlington in March 2001. He was a member of the Arlington United Methodist Church. He worked as a certified guide for blind skiers. He coached and played beep-baseball, and volunteered with Guide Dogs for the Blind in San Rafael (California). He was an avid golfer and skier and was active in all types of sports. He was also a certified reading instructor for the illiterate with the Las Vegas Library. He is survived by his wife, Sharon Marie Smith Mountain, The Dalles, whom he married in February 1984; his son, Kevin A. Mountain, Concord, California; his mother, Marjorie C. Mountain, Las Vegas, Nevada; his sister and her husband, Cheryl and Pete Moskowitz and their sons, Jason and Ryan, all of Las Vegas. Memorial services will be held at the Arlington United Methodist Church at 10 a.m. on Thursday, May 22, with Reverend Robert Reasoner officiating. Private cremation was held at The Dalles Win-quatt Crematory with Spencer, Libby and Powell Funeral Home in care of arrangements. Memorials may be made to the American Diabetes Association, 380 S.E.
