Wakley iwakley@msn.com December 28, 2006, 6:58 pm The Dalles Chronicle, July 7, 2006 Leonard Lee Monroe, 87, a former resident of Maupin, died on June 30, 2006. He was born May 10, 1919 in Cathlamet, Wash. and was raised in Portland. He graduated from Roosevelt High School and received a Master’s degree from the University of Oregon. During World War II he served with the Marine Corps in the South Pacific. He was a high school teacher and later principal of Maupin High School until 1956 when he became principal at St. Helens High School. He later served as dean of student services at Clackamas Community College in Oregon City. After retiring from the teaching field, he was a real estate agent. He moved in 1987 to Milwaukie. In 1984 he married Barbara Charles. He was in Maupin three weeks ago to attend the 50th reunion of the class of 1956. Survivors include his wife; son, Michael; stepdaughters, Lean McPherson, Claudette Mohr, Ronna McPherson and Lois Pelch; stepson Stephen McPherson; brother, Robert; nine grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by two other sons, Leonard and Terry Monroe.
