She was born Nov. 10, 1911, in Appleton, Wash., the oldest of four children to Winfred Morris and Elva Edith (Wythers) Pierson. She was raised in Appleton and in La Grande, graduating from La Grande High School in the Class of 1930. She married George Albert Moats on April 30, 1934, in La Grande. She was a homemaker, worked as a secretary and as a bookkeeper. She lived in La Grande for 69 years prior to moving to The Dalles for seven years. She was a member of the United Methodist Church in La Grande and the Good Sam Club. She enjoyed visiting with her friends and family, gardening, fishing, knitting, her dogs, playing card games and traveling in the motor home. She is survived by her brother, Lenn Pierson and his wife, Eleanor and their children, Forbes Pierson, Claremont, Calif., Cynthia, and her husband, Ted Schliecher, Prescott, Ariz., Jan, and her husband, Geoff Stevenson, Scio; and Doug and his wife, Julee Pierson, Prescott; her brother, Jim Pierson and his wife Doreen, The Dalles; and their children Donna Smith, and her sons, Gregory Jr. and Anthony all of Lacey, Wash.; Michael and his wife, Tanzie Pierson, and Steven Pierson, all of Vancouver, Wash. She was preceded in death by her husband, George, in February 2001; her son, Bruce Scott Moats, in 1982; her brother, Ray Lowell Pierson, who died in the service during World War II. Graveside memorial services will be held at the Island City Cemetery in La Grande at a later date. Private cremation was held at The Dalles Win-quatt Crematory with Spencer, Libby and Powell Funeral Home in care of arrangements.
