He was born in Anadarko, Okla., on Oct. 6, 1909, the oldest of three children to Fred and Marie Elizabeth (McClure) Mishey. His family moved to Oregon when he was nine years old and settled in the Heppner area, where his father farmed. The family moved to Corbett when he was in high school. He graduated there on May 24, 1928, and then attended two years at Oregon State College, studying business management. He and his brother, Lou Mishey, owned and operated Mishey Trucking in Gresham until World War II, then Bill worked on radar and electrical systems in the shipyards. He married Shirley Emely in 1937, and they had two children, Billy and Kaye. In 1961, he married Katherine “Kay” Conner in Reno, Nev. He was, at that time, a member of the carpenter’s union and work took them many different places in their first few years of marriage, including Ft. Barrow, Alaska, where he worked for the Bureau of Indian Affairs building a hospital for the natives. While in Alaska, they drove the Alcan Highway round trip twice. One interesting trip put them at Watson Lake on New Year’s Eve when it was 70 below zero. In 1966, they made their home in Everett, Wash., where he got his contractor’s and real estate sales licenses and built their second home. Due to breathing problems, they moved to the Tygh Valley area in late 1969. He worked maintenance at The Dalles Dam and on rental houses for Mt. Fir Lumber Company. He also worked on construction of the Goldendale Aluminum plant. He retired in 1972. They bought a motor home and joined the snowbirds until 1994, when they moved to Dufur. In July 2002, they moved to Maupin to be near family. He enjoyed building and remodeling houses, hunting, clamming, rodeos, western music, dancing, traveling and his family. He is survived by his wife of 44 years, Kay; his grandchildren and their families, Kim Mishey-Cuseck and her husband, Bob, and their sons, Scott and Steven and Janet Mishey and her children, Chelsea and Kyle, all of Newport and Susan Chamness Johnson and family of San Francisco, Calif.; and Eric Chamness, Eugene; cousin, David Branscom, Bakersfield, Calif.; stepchildren, Shirley and Phil Tolentino and Ed and Kerry Conner, all of Maupin and Ron Conner, McDermott, Nev.; 20 step-grandchildren, 33 great grandchildren and 12 great great grandchildren.
