Wakley iwakley@msn.com April 21, 2006, 2:26 pm The Dalles Chronicle, March 29, 2006 Joe W. Miller, 79, died Monday, March 27, 2006. He was born July 15, 1926 in The Dalles. In 1943, at the age of 17, he dropped out of high school to join the U.S. Navy and serve in World War II as a Seabee. After completing his four years of service he returned to The Dalles where he married his wife of almost 60 years, Patricia McGaughey. After their marriage, he and his wife made their home and farmed on Five Mile Creek Rd., where he died. He belonged to several organizations over the years including the Eagles, Wasco County Pioneers, Wheat League and Cattlemen’s Association. He successfully raised wheat and cattle and enjoyed hunting, listening to country western and polka music, finding “treasures” in other people’s junk and helping friends and neighbors. He is survived by his wife, Patricia, The Dalles; daughter, Marilyn Miller and her husband Barry Hertz, two grandchildren Kaeli and Trevan, all of Lake Oswego; son, Ted and his wife Joanne Miller, Moro; two step- grandchildren, Jason Rich and Stacey Watney; three step-great-grandchildren, Chase, Taylor and Lola; several nieces and nephews, Linda, Johnny, Sam, John, Maureen, Mike, Bea, David, Linda, Jeannie; and a host of friends. Funeral Services will be held at Spencer, Libby & Powell Funeral Home on Saturday, April 1, 2006 at 11 a.m. with Asa Jenson officiating. In lieu of flowers, please make memorials to The Discovery Center/Wasco County Museum, 5000 Discovery Dr., The Dalles, OR 97058. Spencer, Libby & Powell Funeral Home in care of arrangements.
