     Marrion Howard Merritt, 91, a resident of Wasco, died at a local care 
facility on Thursday, Nov. 18, 2004.
     He was born Oct. 3, 1913, in Iotan, Mo., the third of 12 children to 
Elmer Marrion and Cora (VanClive) Merritt. He was raised in Missouri, lived in 
Oklahoma and moved to Sherman County, living near McDonalds’ Crossing. 
     In the spring of 1962, he started working for Helen and Fritz Watkins and 
was a general farm hand. He retired at the age of 65 and lived on the Watkins’ 
ranch in Wasco for 42˝ years. 
     Marrion became a member of Moro Community Presbyterian Church at the age 
of 90 and was a member of American Legion, Story Hardin Post #164 in Craig, 
Mo. Marrion had the longest continuous membership in the Story Hardin Post 
#164 of any World War II veteran. Only one other man (of WWI) has more 
continuous membership time in that post. He was also the first WWII veteran to 
sign up in Craig, Mo.
     He is survived by people closest to him, Helen Watkins, The Dalles; 
Orville and his wife, Shirley Blaylock, Moro and their son, Keith and his 
wife, Tiffini Blaylock and their children, Zachary, Makenzie and Kallie, 
Wasco; daughters, Lori (Blaylock) Roberts and family and Vicki Blaylock and 
family, all of Portland.
     Graveside services will be held at The Dalles Threemile Road Odd Fellows 
Cemetery, formerly known as Parklawn Cemetery, at 11 a.m., on Tuesday, Nov. 
23, with Pastor Bob Stone officiating. Smith Callaway Chapel is in care of 
arrangements.
