She was born December 4, 1925, in Washougal, Wash., to Albert and Hazel (McBroom) Bedell. Betty grew up and graduated from high school in Washougal. After high school, she started her own coffee shop, where she met her future husband, Arthur “John” Mellin. They were married in 1944 in Bend. After her wedding, she worked at the Camas-Washougal paper mill for two years before they started traveling for John’s work. John worked on the construction of dams in the Pacific Northwest, as well as in Pakistan. In 1967, they moved to Moro where they lived until John’s death in 2000. Betty then moved to The Dalles. She enjoyed cooking and making people happy. Betty had no children, but always had an open door for friends, many of whom she called family. Viewing visitation will be held from 2 to 7 p.m. on Tuesday, June 21, at Spencer, Libby & Powell Funeral Home. Graveside services will be held at Willamette National Cemetery in Portland. Spencer, Libby & Powell Funeral Home is in care of arrangements.
