Wakley iwakley@msn.com April 16, 2006, 11:14 pm The Dalles Chronicle, December 2, 2005 Sgt. William (Bill) Meeuwsen, was killed in combat near Baghdad, Iraq, Nov. 23, 2005. He was preceded in death by maternal grandparents Cliff Bissonette and Annamay Bissonette Scherzinger of The Dalles. He is survived by his bride, Lauren Meeuwsen, Ft. Bliss, Texas; parents Mike and Thresa Meeuwsen, Kingwood, Texas; sister, Christine Meeuwsen, Dallas, Texas; grandparents Ralph and Alice Meeuwsen, Hillsboro; grandfather Richard Scherzinger, The Dalles; as well as many aunts, uncles and cousins in the Pacific Northwest. He was born in Mount Vernon, Wash., on Feb. 10, 1981. He attended Immaculate Conception School. In 1991 he moved with his family to Kingwood, where he graduated from Kingwood High School in 1999. He attended Texas A&M University in College Station, Texas for two years and after the events of 9/11, decided to join the Army and fulfill a long time desire to serve in the military. He served with the 1st Battalion, 506th Infantry Regiment (Air Assault) in South Korea near the DMZ for a year and then joined Alpha Company, 2-502nd Infantry, 101st Airborne Division (Air Assault) in Fort Campbell, Ky. At Ft. Campbell he met Lauren Mann and they married Aug. 18, 2005 in Clarksville, Tenn. A rosary/vigil service will be held at the Kingwood Funeral Home, on Dec. 2 at 7 p.m. A funeral mass will be held at St Martha’s Catholic Church, Kingwood, on Dec. 3 at 11:30 a.m. Burial will be at Willamette National Cemetery in Portland, on Dec. 6 at 10:30 a.m. with reception following at Lincoln Memorial Funeral Home. For those who wish, memorials can be directed to the Humane Society of the United States.
