Meads, 88, died Aug. 24 in Hood River. He was a resident of Klickitat. Mr. Meads was born in Menahga, Minn., Feb. 12, 1899. He grew up on a family homestead near LaPorte, Minn. He married his wife, Myrtle, in 1919, and they moved to Klickitat in 1943, where he was employed by J. Neils. Later on, he worked as a millwright until his retirement in 1965. Among his favorite pasttimes were: huckleberry picking (especially at the foot of Mt. Adams), and acting as a guide for hunters and fishermen. He is survived by his wife, Myrtle of Klickitat; son, Jack Meads, Jr. of White Salmon; daughter, Geraldine Maupin of Klickitat; five grandchildren, V. Dennis and John C. Maupin, Jerald and Donis Meads and Shari Halvorson; eight great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews; three sisters. Funeral services were held at Smith Callaway Chapel, officited by Rev. C. W. Hood of North Bend, Ore. Interment was at IOOF Parklawn Memorial Garden. Honorary pallbearers were: Arthur Schade, Orville Arney, Wayne Fink, Alvin Medford and Bobby Dew. Active bearers were Don Whittum, Robert Childers, Milton Schliebe, Arnold Schlangen, Forrest Kimbler and George Hall.
