He was 71. He was born on June 19, 1933, in Portland, to Beatrice (Cairns) and Daniel Patrick McLoughlin, Sr. The family, which would later include a sister, Mary, moved to Yakima, where his father worked on the legal team that established the Hanford Nuclear Reservation. The family moved to Condon when he was in grade school. He played football, basketball and baseball for Condon High School and graduated there in 1951. He went to college in Vanport for a year, then joined the United States Coast Guard on Aug. 21, 1952. He went to radio school in Connecticut and served on ice breakers as a radio man for his four years of active Coast Guard duty. He married Claudette Gleason on May 31, 1958, in Portland. He attended Portland State University and the Northwestern College of Law night school, receiving his law degree in 1961. In 1962, the couple moved to The Dalles to take over Wasco Title from his father, who had been appointed Wasco County’s first district court judge. He belonged to St. Peter’s Catholic Church and was also a longtime member of Kiwanis Club, the Elks, The Dalles Country Club and the American Legion. He enjoyed sports and reading — favorite subjects were local and national history - and frequent visits from his three grandchildren. For years, he officiated at sporting events around the Mid-Columbia and served as a Babe Ruth coach. Then, he enjoyed decades as a faithful spectator and supporter of local sports teams, often traveling to watch teams compete at the regional and state level. He is survived by his wife, Claudette; his four children: Kathy McLoughlin; Laurie Bloniarz, her husband Chris and their daughter Emily; Dan McLoughlin, his wife Neita and their children Gracie and Colin; and Sue Peterson, all of The Dalles; his sister, Mary Geraghty and her husband Jim, Bellevue, Wash.; brother-in-law Doug Gleason and his wife Olwyn, Houston, Texas; his aunt, Mary Jo Foster, Eugene; and five nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, Dan and Bea McLoughlin. A memorial service is set for 11 a.m. Monday, Dec. 6 at St. Peter’s Catholic Church in The Dalles, with Fr. Todd Unger officiating. Viewing visitation is set for Friday, Dec. 3 from 2 p.m. to 7 p.m. at Spencer, Libby & Powell Funeral Home, which is in charge of arrangements.
