All rights reserved. http://www.usgwarchives.net/copyright.htm http://www.usgwarchives.net/or/orfiles.htm *********************************************************************** USGenWeb Archives - Obituary Project July 23, 2004 Jack Meredith McLeod Jack Meredith McLeod, 82, a lifelong resident of Maupin, died at a care facility in Chester, Calif. on Wednesday, July 21, 2004. He was born April 15, 1922, in The Dalles to George and Ruby (Selleck) McLeod. He was raised in Maupin and graduated from Maupin High School in the class of 1941. After he graduated, he joined the U.S. Navy serving during WWII in the Asia-Pacific theatre. Following his discharge in 1946, he returned to Maupin. and established McLeod Clothing Store, operating the store for over fifty years. The store later became Specialty Distributors. He married his wife, Ruth, on July 11, 1948 in Maupin. In May 2002, he moved to Chester to be near family due to health reasons. His passion in life was that of his business. He was active in politics of the community, serving as a longtime member of the Wasco County Republican Committee. He was a member of the Maupin Community Church since 1949, Gideon International, Maupin Lions Club, American Legion Post No. 73, Wasco County Pioneer Association and the local Red Cross chapter. He enjoyed antique automobiles along with race cars and boats. He is survived by his daughter, Sharon and her husband, William Cheek, Lake Almanor Peninsula, Calif.; grandchildren Craig Cheek, Derek Cheek and Stacey Reyes; six great-grandchildren along with his nephews, Steve and Kevin Starcevich. He was preceded in death by his sister Marci in 1971, and his wife of fifty years in 1998. Viewing visitation will be held at Maupin Community Church on Monday, July 26, 2004 at 10 a.m. until funeral services at 11 a.m. with Pastor Larry Moynihan officiating. Interment will follow at Kelly Cemetery. Spencer, Libby and Powell Funeral Home are in care of arrangements.
