The Dalles Weekly Reminder, June 30, 1983
     Martha May McElhose, 73, a resident of The Dalles and a former resident 
of Parkrose, died Saturday, while visiting a son in Portland.
     She was born March 23, 1910 at Clark, S. D.
     Mrs. McElhose was a teacher in The Dalles elementary school system before 
retirement.
     She was a longtime member of Gateway Presbyterian Church, the Retired 
Teachers Association, Oregon Historical Society, The Dalles Historical 
Society, AARP, the Alumni Association of Oregon College of Education, and the 
Alumni Association of Western Washington College.  She was also recently 
installed as secretary of the AAUW.
     Survivors include three sons, Jack Burt, Beaverton; Barry McElhose, 
Springfield, and Robert McElhose, Olympia, Wash.
     Funeral services were yesterday at Gateway Presbyterian Church with Dr. 
James Hazlett officiating.  Burial was at Parkdale Cemetery.
     Casketbearers were Jack and Lonnie Burt, Barry and Robert McElhose, 
Welcome Rumbaugh, Stan Hillgen and Scott Burt.
     Smith Callaway Chapel was in charge of arrangements.
