     Milton Rufus McCorkle, 83, a resident of Maupin, died Saturday, Nov. 13, 
2004, at the Oregon Veterans Home.
     He was born Sept. 7, 1921, in The Dalles to Calvin J. and Kate (Morris) 
McCorkle, the second of three sons.
     He married Mae Greene on Dec. 16, 1941 in Goldendale before joining the 
U.S. Air Force in 1943 and commencing his two-year career of piloting bombers 
in combat missions over Europe. He flew more than 50 missions.
Returning to civilian life, he bought a farm on Juniper Flat and farmed there 
with his wife for more than 50 years.
     He enjoyed his family, hunting and fishing, gardening, and making farm 
equipment.
     Survivors include his wife Mae of the family home in Maupin; his 
children, Marilyn and her husband Don Wagner of Monroe, Ray and his wife 
Sylvia of Maupin; brother Kenneth and his wife Arlene of The Dalles; 
grandchildren Tonia, Tracy, Mark, Diane, Matt and Kitty, and great-
grandchildren Megan, Mercedes, Kammren, Danielle, Dillon, Joshua, Alexandra 
and Brooke.
     In accordance with his wishes no public ceremonies will be held.
     The family will observe private services of remembrance in conjunction 
with the placement of his ashes.
     Memorial contributions may be made to the Southern Wasco County Ambulance 
fund, P.O. Box 125, Maupin, OR 97037 or to the Oregon Veterans Home, 700 
Veterans Drive, The Dalles, OR 97058.
     Arrangements are by Columbia Cremation & Burial.
