Wakley iwakley@msn.com and August 1, 2006, 8:32 pm The Dalles Weekly Reminder, September 27, 1984 John A. McConnell, 60, died at his home Sept. 24. He lived in The Dalles for 27 years. He was born Aug. 29, 1924 at Mayville. Mr. McConnell was a veteran of World War II and was sales manager for Martin Marietta, having been employed by that firm for the last 28 years. He was a member of St. Paul's Episcopal Church. He was a member of The Dalles Chamber of Commerce and former member of its board of directors. Survivors include his wife, Meridel McConnell, The Dalles; his mother, Ida McConnell, Fossil; a brother, Larry McConnell, Medford; a sister, Evellen Rutan, Portland; a step-daughter, Vicky L. Rothery, Portland; and a step-son, Kenneth Wham, Portland; two grandchildren and six nieces and nephews. Requiem eucharist was Wednesday at St. Paul's Episcopal Church with the Rt. Rev. Rustin Kimsey officiating and the Rev. Rick Simpson assisting. Burial followed at Willamette National Cemetery. Honorary casket bearers were Steve Minor, Frank Fisher, Golder Millet, Don Bird, Jack Dyer and Sally Creech. Active casketbearers were Bob Bartlet, Brink Evans, Jim Ramsey, Jim Walters, Dick Schon and Ed Nelson. Smith Callaway Chapel was in charge of arrangements.
